Mableton 5K & Mableton Jr. FAQ’s

When and where is the race?

The 2015 date will be announced soon.  The race begins and ends at the Mable House Complex, 5239 Floyd Road in Mableton. Runners should report to the parking lot near the amphitheater. Race Day number pick-up begins at 7:00 a.m. and the race starts at 8:00 a.m. sharp. The Mableton Jr. Fun Run begins at 9:00am.

What are Mableton Day 5K Registration deadlines and fees?

Fees and deadlines for the 2015 race will be announced soon.  By way of information, in 2014, registration fees for the Mableton Day 5K Race for Adults were $20 until April 30; $25 from May 1 thru May 16; and $30 on Race Day. Youth (<13) fees were $15 until April 30; $20 from May 1 thru May 16; and $25 on Race Day.

What are Mableton Jr. Registration deadlines and fees?

Fees and deadlines for the 2015 race will be announced soon.  By way of information, in 2014 the registration fee for the Fun Run for Adults was $15. For Youth (5-12 yrs) the fee was $10. Registration is required and the t-shirt deadline was May 8, as noted below.

How do I register?

Remember to register early, once registration is open. You will be able to register on-line at the Mableton Day website using the Register button above and, in addition, donate to one of the Community Spirit Program organizations vying for a Mableton Day Grant.  This optional donation will be available only on this website.   If you choose to mail in your application, remember the deadlines for fees and t-shirt availability are according to date payment is received.

What about awards?

The top three male and female winners of the 5K will receive a custom-made award courtesy of our partner, the South Cobb Arts Alliance. We will also have awards for each age group, male and female. As is standard with Fun Runs, the Mableton Jr. will not present awards since the race will not be officially timed.

Where can I park?

There should be plenty of parking right in the Mable House Complex. If you want to walk or get a little warm-up in, park to the north in the lot near the old Piccadilly restaurant at Mableton Walk shopping center on the corner of Floyd Road and Ayers Drive.

Can I see the race route?

If you want to ruin the surprise, go ahead and view the race route. There will be cones and markings along the course so you won’t get lost. The course is entirely through residential neighborhoods.

Can I walk the whole 5K?

Yes, walkers are allowed and encouraged. Please bear in mind you will need to be finished by around 9:15.

Wheelchairs, other wheeled conveyances and pets

Wheelchairs ARE allowed and encouraged on the course and should be equipped with proper flags. For the safety of our participants, no headphones, skates, bicycles or dogs are allowed on the course.

I’ve registered online, now what?

Come to the Mable House Complex at 5239 Floyd Rd in Mableton to pick up your packet on race day 6:30am and 7:30am. On Saturday morning, go to the tables marked “Pre-Registered Racers”. (Race Day Registration will be in a separate area.)  Tell us your first and last name and we’ll give you your number and safety pins to attach it to your shirt. Restrooms will be open in the amphitheater plaza.

When can I pick up my shirt?

Shirts will be distributed before the race at number pick-up. Make sure you register BEFORE the t-shirt deadline of May 8. Registrants after that day (that includes Race Day) will have to wait and see if there are any shirts remaining in their size.

Can I pick up my race number before race day?

Yes! You can if you pre-registered. We will be set up outside the Mable House Arts Center on Friday before the race between 5-7pm. Just circle around the front of the arts center (building adjacent to Floyd Rd) and we’ll hand you your number and shirt. You might not even have to get out of your car. If you register on Friday, you’ll get your number but you’ll have to wait for your shirt until all the folks who pre-registered get theirs. That’s just the way it has to be.

I’m a procrastinator. Can I register on race day?

Yes. Simply arrive between 6:30am and 7:30am and look for the tables marked “Race Day Registration”. We are glad to have you join us, but we cannot guarantee that you will receive a shirt or that it will be your size. If the shirt is a deal breaker, stop reading this page and register by May 8. If you have time before you rush to the Race Day event, print out and complete the necessary registration waiver.

Can I pay by credit card at pre-race Number Pick-Up or on Race Day?

No, we regret we are unable to offer an on-site credit card option at late registration. Cash or checks only, please.

What is a ghost runner and are they dangerous?

Ghost runners are usually very friendly as long as they don’t have to get up early and run three miles through the streets of Mableton. These lovely people sign up for the race to support the cause but they are not able to join us on race day. We happily give them our heartfelt thanks and a shirt. If you didn’t plan to be a ghost runner but find you can’t make it to the race, email us before the race and we’ll set your shirt aside. If you don’t show up on Saturday by 7:30 a.m. we cannot guarantee your shirt.

What’s the Mableton Jr. Fun Run and what is so fun about it?

We are all about health, fitness and wellness in our community so we’ve added a 1 mile jaunt for the youngsters. In 2014, we have opened up the Mableton Jr. to all participants five years of age and older for whom a 1 mile walk or run may be more suitable than a 5K and who want a shirt to commemorate their participation. The Mableton Jr. will start at 9:00am and follow the same course as the 5K for about a half-mile. We’ll have volunteers at the well-marked turn-around point so the kids will turn around and run back through the same finish line as the 5K’ers. Even though the cones will be keeping kids on course and police officers will be on patrol, parents are very welcome (but not required) to accompany their kids on the Mableton Jr. Parents who accompany their children on the Fun Run are not required to register, but only paid registrants will receive a shirt. To ensure the safety and fun for our little racers and everyone else who wants to participate in the Fun Run, we are limiting the number of registered participants to 100.

Something came up…I can’t make it to the race.

That’s okay. Life happens. If you want to be a “Ghost Runner,” see above. Come and pick up your t-shirt at early pick-up on Friday, 5-7 p.m. at Mable House Arts Center. If we don’t hear from you by 7:30 a.m. on race day, we cannot guarantee your shirt.

What kind of timing system will be used?

We are using a Chip Timing system, with chip attached to your race number, to record your time quickly and accurately. You’ll just race through the finish, grab a water and cool down. We will have race results quickly and awards presentation will begin at approximately 9 am.
